Mission Statement

The parish community of St. Andrew the Apostle is committed to:

  • Supporting one another in living out the call of the Gospel to proclaim God's love to all.
  • Teaching by providing lifelong Christian formation, which translates into the sound practice of our Catholic morals, values & beliefs.
  • Evangelizing by sharing the Gospel message entrusted to the Apostles & his Church by Jesus Christ.
  • Encouraging spiritual growth by nurturing our relationship with Christ & one another through the celebration of the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist.

Our Story

The history of St. Andrew's dates back to June 11th, 1939 when it became a parish of the Paterson Diocese. Today it stands a vibrant faith-filled Catholic community of 1100 families, providing endless opportunities for people of all ages to participate in its parish life.

St. Andrew's Parish also supports St. Andrew's School, founded in 1953, which offers a quality Catholic education to children in grades PreK3 to Grade 8.

Our Pastor

Rev. Richard D. Kilcomons was ordained in 2006 & installed pastor of St. Andrew's in 2014, both by Bishop Serratelli of the Paterson Diocese.

Good News & parish events

For a listing of upcoming events, see this month's calendar or our parish Facebook Events tab.

HIGHLIGHTED Recent Events

EASTER EGG HUNT

St. Andrew's Parish Youth Group hosted its 2nd annual free parish egg hunt on April 8th, & it was a big hit! The young people of our parish collected close to 2000 eggs & more than 80 children hopped over to our backyard on a chilly April afternoon to scoop them up & meet the Easter Bunny! More photos may be found on our Facebook page.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA

St. Andrew's had the honor of hosting the United Nations International Statue of Our Lady of Fatima in November. The school honored her with a school mass and the 6th grade performed a skit following mass. The parish offered quiet time for prayer, the rosary, adoration, and benediction.

SCHOOL TRUNK OR TREAT

St. Andrew's Trunk or Treat Committee did an exquisite job with this year's event. Parents & parishioners donated their time, energy, trunks, & treats to 300 children dressed in festive costumes. The parish youth group ran a haunted house, parents worked in the kitchen, showed movies, face-painted, & greeted trick-or-treaters. Together we had a fun safe Halloween for all boys & ghouls!

BLESSING OF ANIMALS

St. Francis of Assisi was a Catholic friar who gave up a life of wealth to live a life of poverty. He established the Franciscan Order of Friars & is the patron saint of animals. Each October, St. Andrew's celebrates the feast of St. Francis with an annual blessing of animals. This year, Deacon Manuel blessed dozens of our furry friends..  For more information & photos from this year's event, please see our official Event Facebook page here.

CARNIVAL 2016

St. Andrew's 2016 Carnival was a weekend of games, rides, & family fun!

What a joy to see our entire parish & school communities work together this September to put on such a major event. Many thanks to our Carnival committee & all volunteers who worked very hard!

For more information & photos from this year's event, please see our official Event Facebook page here.

Religious Education

CCD

Religious education is offered to children in grades K-8 via CCD classes on Sunday mornings  after 9am mass. We encourage families to attend this mass as it includes a Children's Liturgy of the Word. Children receive their First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion in the 2nd grade.

Registration forms, volunteer forms, & parent letters may be downloaded here. Be sure to note there are parishioner & non-parishioner forms.

CONFIRMATION

A 2-year confirmation program is offered for teens in the first 2 years of high school, preparing them for Confirmation in the 10th grade. Classes are held on Sunday evenings during the school year.

Registration forms, volunteer forms, & parent letters may be downloaded here. Be sure to note there are parishioner & non-parishioner forms.

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a process established for individuals who may choose to receive Baptism, Eucharist, & Confirmation as an adult convert to the Catholic faith. Candidates in the RCIA program work directly with our Director of Religious Education, Deacon Rich, as they are gradually introduced to Catholic teachings, beliefs, & practices to enter the Faith fully committed to their conversion. Please down-load & return the current RCIA form to the rectory.

FAITH FORMATION & CONTINUING EDUCATION

Throughout the year, various programs are offered for adults & teens in the parish to enrich their lives as practicing Catholics & to increase their working knowledge of their Faith. Presentations are given on many Sunday afternoons by Rev. Philip Tangorra regarding one's Catholic faith. Individuals are always also invited to work with a priest or deacon in order to become an alter server, lector, Eucharistic Minister, Children's Liturgy Volunteer, or Religious Education instructor. St. Andrew's also encourages members of its community to keep up to date with all programs offered by St. Paul Inside the Walls, the Diocese of Paterson's Center for Evangelization.

For more information, call Deacon Rich at 973-779-6873 ext. 20 / StAndrewRelEd@optonline.net.
